Congratulations to Rachel Bentley who won 2nd place state, girls extemporaneous speaking, at the GHSA State Literary Meet at Veterans High School in Warner Robins on Saturday, March 15, 2014. Rachel received a near perfect score for her speech on the suicide rate among armed services veterans returning from war zone deployment. Rachel is the daughter of David and Lane Bentley. Star Student: Tatyana Nembhard Star Teacher: CSM (Retired) Irving R. Bush The Star Student is the student with the highest SAT score and ranks in the top 10% of the graduating class. Tatyana will received a $1,000.00 scholarship from the Taylor County Kiwanis Club. The Star Student choses the Star Teacher.
On Saturday, March 8, 2014 JROTC cadets competed in 8 events during region drill competition at Turner County High School and came out victorious winning 5 first place trophies and 3 second place trophies, virtually unmatched by other teams. Cadet's Tatyana Nembhard, Marcus Searcy, and Nykeisha Searcy also won medals during individual drill performances.Cadets also qualified to compete in the state drill competition for the fourth consecutive year, however due to DOD budget constraints, state competition will not be held this year. |
